Mumbai: Shivaji Maharaj Is A Vote Machine For PM Modi, Says Uddhav Thackeray At Dussehra Rally

During the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Dussehra rally at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, Uddhav Thackeray criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He likened them to the 'Kauravas' for their perceived dominance in Indian politics. Thackeray explained his split from the BJP, citing differences in Hindutva interpretation. He claimed that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi might see Shivaji Maharaj as an electoral tool, Shiv Sena views him as a deity.

The rally was both a show of strength and a precursor to the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024. Thackeray criticised central government policies, including Dharavi's sale to Adani. He expressed disappointment with the judiciary's inaction and questioned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) about their stance on BJP's current direction, which he sees as straying from traditional values.

Commitment to Balasaheb Thackeray's Ideology

Thackeray promised to build temples dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in every Maharashtra district if elected. He reaffirmed his commitment to his father Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology. His critique included BJP's communal and caste politics approach, accusing them of causing division and prioritising their interests over Maharashtra's welfare. Thackeray predicted governance change, promising to reverse unfavourable decisions by the current administration and warning officials against supporting BJP actions.

Aaditya Thackeray echoed his father's sentiments, asserting their faction of Shiv Sena's authenticity and legacy based on Balasaheb Thackeray's principles. He accused the Mahayuti government of corruption and urged Maharashtra residents to show their power through voting.

Legacy of Dussehra Rally

The Dussehra rally tradition, started by Bal Thackeray in the 1960s, remains vital for Shiv Sena, now divided into factions. Uddhav Thackeray's faction continues rallies at Shivaji Park, symbolising their claim to Sena's legacy. Meanwhile, Shinde-led faction seeks new venues, highlighting ongoing disputes over Bal Thackeray's true legacy amid upcoming state elections.
