Heavy rains have battered Mumbai and its suburbs, leading to significant disruptions in flight operations. Many flights have been cancelled or diverted as a result of the severe weather. Air India has responded by offering full refunds or a one-time complimentary rescheduling for flights scheduled for Sunday, 21 July 2024.

Amid continuous heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Sunday, Indigo has issued an advisory urging passengers to monitor flight status. Due to waterlogging in several parts of the city, the advisory further advises citizens to plan their travel carefully.
"#Mumbai is going to see increased rainfall, particularly until tonight, with more rain anticipated in the coming days. Please monitor your flight status http://bit.ly/3DNYJqj and plan your travel carefully due to potential waterlogged roads," Indigo wrote on its official X handle.
Mumbai Flights Diverted
Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were suspended twice for a brief period due to inclement weather and low visibility on 21 July, a source said.
At least 15 flights were diverted to nearby airports, mainly Ahmedabad, till 04:00 pm. As intermittent heavy spells of rain hit the city, runway operations were suspended at 12:12 pm for eight minutes and from 01:00 pm to 01:15 pm, the source said. Flights of IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, and Akasa were diverted, it was stated.
Authorities Advisories
The Mumbai Police has issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid coastal areas due to the heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to leave their homes only if necessary and to take necessary precautions. The emergency number 100 has been provided for urgent situations.
The Mumbai civic authority has also warned residents to stay indoors unless necessary. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has urged people to be cautious and avoid travel if possible.
Mumbai Weather Alerts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall. An orange alert has similarly been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region. Several roads in Mumbai have been waterlogged, causing severe traffic jams across the city.

Mumbai is currently facing heavy and torrential rainfall, leading the IMD to issue an orange alert for today and a yellow alert until 25 July for moderate to heavy rain.
