Mumbai Police Tightens Security After Pahalgam Terror Attack: See High-Alert Zones Inside

Security has been significantly increased across the city following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed at least 26 people and left many others injured, as per mid-day report. The victims include tourists from different states and countries, including four from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan said, "All DCPs and Senior PIs have been instructed to remain on high alert and maintain strict vigilance in their areas."

The report added that the police officials confirmed that patrolling has been stepped up in all zones. Security presence has also been increased at important locations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Bandra, and Marine Drive. "We are fully alert. Extra police officers are now stationed at crowded public places like tourist spots and bus stands," said a senior officer.

Tragically, four individuals from Mumbai and nearby areas have been confirmed dead in the attack. These include Atul Mone, Hemant Joshi, and Sanjay Lele from Dombivli, and Dilip Disale, a 64-year-old man from Khanda Colony in Navi Mumbai.

Hospitals in Kashmir have officially confirmed their deaths.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has spoken to the families of the victims from Maharashtra and assured them of full support from the government. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, he also mentioned speaking to relatives of injured tourists from Nagpur and Pune.

The Maharashtra government has asked the Civil Aviation Ministry to arrange a special flight to bring back the bodies of the deceased. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has spoken to Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu to facilitate this arrangement and ensure that the families can return safely to Maharashtra.

Officials say the terror attack took place on Tuesday at a busy tourist area in Pahalgam, South Kashmir. The attack claimed the lives of 26 people, including two foreign nationals from the UAE and Nepal, as well as two local residents.

The city police continue to maintain a strong presence across Mumbai to ensure safety and security for all.
