Mumbai Municipal Administration Recruiting Executive Engineers And Deputy Chief Engineers
As Mumbai braces for the annual monsoon deluge, the Municipal Administration faces a critical juncture with the recent retirement of key engineering personnel. The retirement of experienced engineers from various municipal projects and departments, effective June 30, has sparked concerns within administrative circles about the upcoming monsoon preparedness.
With responsibilities spanning road maintenance, drainage, epidemic prevention, and water management, the Municipal Administration is tasked with ensuring the city's resilience against monsoon-related challenges. The absence of seasoned engineers raises apprehensions about the capacity of new recruits to navigate these crucial tasks effectively.

The Municipal Corporation, responsible for serving approximately five million residents across Mumbai and its suburbs through 129 departments, acknowledges the heightened demand for experienced personnel during this period. Despite efforts to streamline replacements, including the appointment of interim officers, the transition remains a focal point of concern.
In response, the administration has initiated recruitment processes for Assistant Commissioner roles, inviting applications from Executive Engineers and Deputy Chief Engineers. These appointments are made through the Public Service Commission.
Mumbai's municipality has 24 divisional offices and key roles in tax assessment, and planning. Half of Assistant Commissioner posts are often unfilled; currently, 17 out of 35 are occupied. Executive and Deputy Chief Engineers are temporarily taking on the other 18 posts.
Some current Assistant Commissioners are eligible for promotion to Deputy Commissioners. However, due to a lack of candidates for Assistant Commissioner roles, their promotions are on hold. Therefore, some officers are serving in dual roles as Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners.
"We recognise the pivotal role of experienced officers and engineers in managing Mumbai's infrastructure during the monsoon," stated a municipal spokesperson. "While transitions are underway, our focus remains on maintaining service delivery and safeguarding public welfare."
