Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 Launch WhatsApp Ticketing: Say Goodbye To Long Queues; Here’s How To Use It
The Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has introduced a new, eco-friendly ticketing service for Metro passengers in Mumbai, making travel on Metro lines 2A and 7 more convenient. This service, announced on Friday, allows passengers to purchase tickets using WhatsApp, reducing the need for paper tickets, as reported by Times Now.
Metro Line 2A runs from Andheri West to Dahisar along the New Link Road, while Metro Line 7 connects Andheri East to Dahisar via the Western Express Highway. Both lines, launched in April 2022, serve a large number of commuters in Mumbai's north-western region. The WhatsApp ticketing service is expected to simplify the ticket-buying process and promote digital ticketing.
How To Use It
To use this service, passengers can send a message saying "Hi" to 8652635500 or scan the QR code displayed at metro stations. Once connected, they can follow the prompts to purchase their tickets. MMMOCL officials believe this service will reduce queues at ticket counters, streamline travel, and provide a sustainable, paperless option for commuters.
Metro lines 2A and 7 currently cater to over 200,000 passengers each day, and recently reached a record high of 292,000 passengers in a single day. Sanjay Mukherjee, the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), highlighted that this initiative would improve the overall travel experience. He also mentioned that approximately 62 per cent of passengers already use QR tickets, 3 per cent use mobile QR tickets, and 35 per cent prefer the NCMC card.
With this new WhatsApp ticketing service, MMMOCL aims to make travel even more efficient while supporting environmentally friendly practices.
