Mumbai Metro-3 To Be Fully Operational By This Month, CM Devendra Fadnavis Reveals
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced in the legislative assembly on Thursday that the Metro-3 line connecting Colaba to Seepz would be fully operational by May 2025. He stated that the Metro line, expected to cater to 1.7 million passengers daily, has the potential to transform Mumbai's transportation system.
While responding to a debate on the governor's address to both houses, Fadnavis provided updates on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's (MMR) Metro network. Of the planned 374-kilometre network, 70 kilometres are currently operational, and an additional 20 kilometres will soon be ready. The second phase of Metro-3, connecting Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Colaba, is projected to increase the daily ridership beyond the current six lakh commuters.
Extension For Land Conversion Period
The Chief Minister also announced a one-year extension for the conversion of collector lands, where cooperative housing societies are located, from Class II to Class I. This decision aims to benefit the 22,000 cooperative housing societies in Mumbai situated on collector land. Class I conversion offers freehold ownership, granting societies greater control over redevelopment, especially for dilapidated buildings.
Development Of Wadhavan Port And Vasai-Virar Belt
Fadnavis highlighted the Wadhavan port project, which is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 76,000 crore. He emphasised its significance in driving Maharashtra's economic growth over the next three decades. Located in Palghar, the port will facilitate the development of a "fourth Mumbai" in the Vasai-Virar area and will be complemented by a proposed third airport on reclaimed land.
Updates On Ladki Bahin Yojana
The Chief Minister assured that the sixth instalment of the Ladki Bahin Yojana would be credited to beneficiaries' accounts by December 21, after the conclusion of the winter session. He clarified that there would not be a blanket review of beneficiaries; however, accounts flagged for irregularities, such as multiple or fraudulent applications, would be scrutinised.
This series of announcements underscores the government's focus on improving infrastructure and addressing pressing issues for citizens across Mumbai and Maharashtra.
