Mumbai's Metro-3 Aqua Line Delayed, New Opening Target Set For Late August

The eagerly awaited third phase of Mumbai's Metro-3 Aqua Line, which will connect Worli to Cuffe Parade, is facing a delay. Initially planned for an Independence Day launch, officials now aim for an end-of-August opening. This 9.1-km underground section was supposed to be operational by August 15, but construction at two key Kalbadevi stations is still ongoing.

Challenges in the densely populated Kalbadevi area have caused setbacks due to its congested layout and logistical issues. A Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) official stated, "We are targeting an inauguration by the end of August," as reported by Hindustan Times. Once completed, this line will significantly improve north-south travel in the city.

Infrastructure Projects Inauguration

On the eve of Independence Day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate various infrastructure projects across Mumbai. These include a 2.75-km flyover between Mumbai University and Vile Parle to alleviate traffic congestion at Santacruz and a new bridge connecting Kalanagar and Dharavi for enhanced east-west connectivity.

Additionally, a Metro motormen training centre at Mandale will be opened to reduce reliance on outstation facilities. Fadnavis will also inaugurate MMRDA staff quarters at Malvani and hand over keys to 556 tenants from redeveloped BDD chawls in Worli, marking the completion of the project's first phase.

Impact on Commuters

The delay in completing Metro-3 means daily commuters must wait longer for seamless underground connectivity from Worli to South Mumbai. However, once operational, it is expected to ease travel significantly. The first two phases have already improved connectivity between Aarey and Worli.

In addition to these developments, the International Experience Centre at Dabbewala Bhavan in Bandra West will open. This centre celebrates Mumbai's renowned lunchbox delivery network, highlighting the city's unique cultural aspects alongside its infrastructural advancements.
