Mumbai's local trains recently offered a unique experience when a Scottish bagpiper, Robin Alderslowe, performed traditional tunes in the midst of a crowded coach. Known for dance and prank reels, Mumbaikars had never seen anything like this before, with the bagpipes adding a distinctive musical touch to the daily commute.

In January, Robin, a Scottish musician, visited Mumbai and decided to take a ride on the city's lifeline-the local train. He wanted to experience the vibrant atmosphere of Mumbai's transport system while sharing his musical talents with the passengers.

The first video showed Robin, dressed in full Scottish attire-a green blazer, kilt, and plaid sash-attempting to board a packed second-class compartment. Just like the locals, he squeezed his way into the train, eventually managing to find a spot in the crowded coach.

Once inside, he pulled out his bagpipe and turned the compartment into his stage. In the second video, Robin stood in the middle of the coach, filling the air with the sounds of his bagpipe. While some passengers watched curiously, others pulled out their phones to record the moment, clapping along to the music.

In the third video, Robin was offered a seat, likely as a gesture of appreciation from fellow commuters. He continued playing, captivating everyone in the crowded train.

Reflecting on his experience, Robin shared his thoughts on the welcoming nature of Mumbai's people. "A bagpiper performing on a train in Mumbai is definitely not a common sight. We loved India for its open nature, where we felt free to perform anywhere. Mumbai itself was a perfect environment for a musician trying to find an enthusiastic audience," he said.

Robin also noted how he had never expected such a warm reception in other countries like South Korea or China, where such performances would be unlikely.

A Moment Of Relatability

One of the most memorable moments in Robin's video was when a fellow commuter covered his ears as the loud sound of the bagpipes filled the compartment. The man, possibly exhausted from a long day, initially appeared annoyed but later joined in by clapping and cheering for the performance.

Robin addressed this in his Instagram post, saying, "He was clapping at the end; this gentleman was clearly tired, and nobody can blame him for wanting to soften the loud noise by covering his ears. I myself am wearing earplugs-many people do not want 100 decibels blasting their eardrums."
