Mumbai Local Train News Today: Exciting Update! Thane Set To Receive New Station Between Mulund And Ghodbunder
Thane, a bustling railway hub, sees nearly lakhs of passengers daily, resulting in congestion. To address this issue, the Indian Railways is taking steps to ease the overcrowding at Thane station. A new station is being planned between Thane and Mulund, with an investment of Rs 185 crores allocated for the project. This new station is expected to be completed by 2025.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has approved the fund of Rs 185 crores for platform construction, rail track installation, and other essential facilities. This financial approval has accelerated the progress of the project, as confirmed by railway officials to Zee, a news agency. The announcement followed a meeting chaired by Minister Vaishnav at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi, attended by Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Thane MP Naresh Mhaske, and Kalyan MP Dr Shrikant Shinde.

The total cost for the new station project is estimated at Rs 264 crores, with Rs 185 crores dedicated to administrative buildings, railway track laying, and platform works. As per the information provided, 30 per cent of the project was completed in 2019, and full completion is anticipated by September 2025. Once operational, this new station will significantly reduce congestion at Thane station.
Whom It Will Benefit?
The new station will benefit thousands of commuters from Mulund and the Ghodbunder areas of Thane, making their journeys more pleasant. It will also facilitate easier local travel for residents of Ghodbunder Road, Waghle Estate, and Pokhran, saving both time and travel effort.
Currently, reaching Thane station involves considerable effort and frequent traffic jams. After the construction of the new station, trains heading towards Mumbai will depart from the home platform at this station, while trains bound for Karjat-Kalyan will use platforms two and three.
Features Of The New Station
The station's design includes three elevated walkways connecting the station deck, ensuring convenient access for commuters. Access roads, each 275 meters from Gyan Sadhana College, 327 meters from the mental hospital, and 325 meters from the Mulund LBS toll plaza, will facilitate smooth connectivity. All three lanes of these roads will measure 8.50 meters in width. Additionally, the station itself will stretch 275 meters in length and 34 meters in width, elevated approximately nine meters above ground level.
This new infrastructure development will enhance the travel experience for thousands of daily commuters.
