Mumbai Lakes Water Levels Near Full Capacity: Which Reservoirs Are Overflowing?

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Saturday morning that the water levels in Mumbai's seven reservoirs, which supply potable water to the city, have reached 98.09 per cent. Based on the data provided by the civic body on X, formerly known as Tweeter, the combined water stock of the reservoirs currently stands at 14,19,679 million litres, which ensures that the city has a stable supply of water to meet its needs.

Mumbai receives its water supply from seven key reservoirs: Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Tansa, Vihar, Tulsi, and Modak Sagar. The latest data from the BMC gives a detailed picture of the water levels in these reservoirs as follows:

Upper Vaitarna has reached its full capacity at 100 per cent.
Middle Vaitarna is nearly full, with water levels at 99.67 per cent.
Bhatsa holds 97.97 per cent of its useful water.
Tansa has reached 97.80 per cent of its capacity.
Vihar is nearly full, with 99.59 per cent of the available water.
Tulsi is currently at 97.81 per cent of its water stock.
Modak Sagar, meanwhile, holds 93.00 per cent of its capacity.

On Friday morning, the BMC reported that the combined water stock in these seven lakes was slightly higher, at 98.19 per cent. The total water available yesterday was 14,21,113 million litres. While there has been a minor decrease in water levels over the last 24 hours, this drop is minimal, and the reservoirs continue to maintain a healthy level, ensuring that the city's water supply remains secure.
