Mumbai Horror: Professor Stabbed To Death By A Local Commuter In Mumbai Local Train, Accused Detained

A routine evening journey on a Mumbai local train turned fatal for a college professor after a small argument with a fellow passenger escalated into violence. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about commuter safety on the city's crowded suburban railway network.

The victim, identified as Alok Singh, was a professor at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. He was attacked on Saturday evening and later died due to his injuries, police said.

What Happened on the Train

According to police, Singh boarded the local train at Vile Parle and was travelling towards Malad. Just before the train reached Malad station around 6 pm, he got into a verbal argument with another passenger.

What began as a brief exchange quickly turned violent. The attacker allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Singh once in the stomach. As the train arrived at Platform 1 at Malad station, the accused fled into the crowd.

Despite being badly injured, Singh managed to step onto the platform before collapsing. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Accused Arrested Within Hours

Following the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) launched a search operation. A murder case was initially registered against an unknown person under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

After reviewing CCTV footage and gathering leads, police arrested the main suspect, 27-year-old Omkar Shinde, early Sunday morning from Vasai station, located on the outskirts of Mumbai.

The accused is currently in police custody and is being questioned to understand what led to the sudden act of violence. Police officials said further details will emerge as the investigation continues.

Probe and Safety Concerns

Investigating teams, along with forensic experts and a dog squad, examined Malad station late Saturday night to collect evidence related to the case. Authorities are also checking eyewitness accounts to piece together the sequence of events.

The incident has shocked commuters and the academic community alike, highlighting how minor disputes can turn deadly in crowded public spaces. Police have urged passengers to remain calm during conflicts and report issues to authorities instead of engaging in arguments.
