This fatal accident follows another recent tragedy in Mumbai. On December 9, a driver lost control of an electric bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking. The bus crashed into pedestrians and vehicles in Kurla, killing seven people and injuring 42 others. The crash caused significant damage, with more than 20 vehicles involved, and was captured on CCTV.

This incident highlights a concerning trend in road safety across India. According to a recent report by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Maharashtra is among the states with the highest number of road accidents. Between 2018 and 2022, over 7 lakh people died in road accidents across the country. Maharashtra recorded 66,370 fatalities, ranking third after Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on addressing road safety issues in the region, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies.
