Mumbai-Goa Highway Inches Closer To Completion: Here’s When It Will Be Ready
The Mumbai-Goa Highway, a link between two of India's most popular destinations, is undergoing a major upgrade. The 466-kilometre four-lane project is expected to be fully completed by May or June 2025, according to reports. Once finished, the travel time between Mumbai and Goa will be cut from 12-13 hours to just six hours, significantly improving road connectivity.
Mumbai-Goa Highway: Features And Route
The upgraded highway will stretch from Panvel to Sindhudurg, passing through scenic regions of Raigad and Ratnagiri. The project is jointly overseen by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Highway Public Works Department (NHPWD).
It will feature 14 interchanges to ensure smoother traffic flow. Once operational, the highway is expected to reduce congestion and provide a more comfortable journey for travellers.
Mumbai-Goa Highway: Completion Timeline
The project has encountered multiple delays, particularly in towns such as Pali, Lanja, Kolad, Mangaon, Indapur, and Chiplun. Officials have attributed these delays to extended work on bypasses, flyovers, and underpasses. However, they have confirmed that all remaining work will be completed before the 2025 monsoon season.
Mumbai-Goa Highway: Project Cost
Initially estimated at Rs 3,500 crore, the total cost of the project has now doubled to Rs 7,300 crore due to construction delays. The 84-kilometre stretch between Panvel and Indapur is being widened by NHAI, while the remaining sections are being developed by the PWD.
With improved infrastructure and reduced travel time, the Mumbai-Goa Highway is set to enhance road transport, benefiting both tourists and local commuters.
