Mumbai: Depressed youth commits suicide; posts video on Facebook

In a shocking incident that highlights how depression is killing today's generation, a 23-year-old youth leaped to his death from the 19th floor of a five-star hotel in Bandra (West) in Mumbai.

Mumbai, April 4: In a shocking incident that highlights how depression is killing today's generation, a 23-year-old youth leaped to his death from the 19th floor of a five-star hotel in Bandra (West) in Mumbai, on Monday.

According to media reports, the deceased has been identified as Arjun Bharadwaj, a third-year engineering student.

Bharadwaj shot a video of himself lasting 1 minute 43 seconds and uploaded it on Facebook, before taking the extreme step. In the video, he was seen consuming alcohol.

The incident was reported from the room number 1925 of Taj Lands End at around 6.30 pm. He had checked into the hotel at 3 am on Monday and had submitted all his identity proofs to the hotel staff.

Bharajwaj was a student of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Vile Parle. He hailed from Bengaluru and had been living in Mumbai since 2013.

Bandra police officials said that they recovered nine short suicide notes in which he had mentioned that no-one should be blamed for the reason behind his death.

He also apologised to his parents and thanked his friends in the suicide note written by him and also mentioned that he was fed up with his life due to depression and drug abuse.

Mumbai police mourned the death of Bharadwaj and tweeted:

Bhardwaj allegedly smashed the window glass through a chair to end his life. His body was found lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His body was sent for a post-mortem.

Police officials also claimed that Bharadwaj had described death as a 'celebration' in his suicide note.

The police has registered a cased of Accidental Death Reported and the video posted by Bharadwaj has also been blocked.
