Mumbai: Cab Driver Grabs Woman By Hair, Saves Her From Falling Off Atal Setu | WATCH

A 57-year-old woman narrowly escaped falling into the sea from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link bridge (Atal Setu) in Nhava Sheva, thanks to the quick actions of a cab driver and the police.

The incident, which occurred around 7 PM on Friday, was captured on CCTV footage that has since gone viral on social media.

The footage shows the cab driver, Sanjay Yadav, heroically grabbing the woman just as she attempted to jump off the bridge.

According to the police, the woman, who is from Mulund, had asked Yadav to stop the cab on the bridge under the pretext of immersing religious photos into the sea.

The Nhava Sheva Traffic Branch Patrolling One received a call about a car stopping on the bridge and the woman crossing the railing.

"The Nhava Sheva Traffic Branch Patrolling One got a call that a vehicle has stopped on the Atal Setu bridge on the road heading to Shelghar Toll Naka and a woman is doing something by crossing the railing of the bridge," an unidentified police officer was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

As the police arrived, the woman reportedly attempted to jump into the sea but was saved by Yadav, who grabbed her by her hair.

Four constables quickly intervened, pulling her back to safety. The woman was then taken to the police station in Navi Mumbai, where her family was notified.

Anjum Bagwan, senior inspector of Nhava Sheva police station, stated that the woman's family reported she was mentally disturbed, as per The Times of India.

The woman told the police that she lost her balance in panic after seeing them approach, according to PTI.

This incident is not the first of its kind on the Atal Setu bridge. In July, a 38-year-old engineer, stressed due to financial troubles, jumped off the bridge.

Similarly, in March, a 43-year-old woman was reported to have jumped from the same bridge.
