Mumbai BMW Hit-And-Run Case: Mihir Shah's Police Custody Extended Amidst Ongoing Investigation

Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, has been remanded to police custody until July 16. Shah was apprehended on July 9, three days after a hit-and-run case that resulted in the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa.

During the court hearing, the Investigating Officer (IO) detailed how Shah fled the accident scene with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat. The IO emphasised the need to investigate who Shah contacted post-incident and who might have assisted him. Additionally, it was noted that Shah altered his appearance by cutting his hair and shaving to evade identification.

Incident Details

The investigation revealed that Mihir Shah was driving when his car struck a scooter, causing Kaveri Nakhwa's death. Police stated that Nakhwa was dragged for a kilometre before being removed from the bonnet and run over again while reversing. CCTV footage presented in court corroborated these events.

Amruta Nakhwa, the victim's daughter, has demanded capital punishment for Mihir Shah. She stated, "My mother should get justice. I want him (Mihir Shah) to get the death penalty. She (victim) was in a lot of pain, I saw her with my own eyes, in the hospital."

Legal Arguments And Defence

The defence lawyer contested the prosecution's arguments for continued custody. They argued that since the car had been recovered and inconsistencies were present in the investigation, further custody was unnecessary. "They have the CCTV footage from the front side, where the plate should have fallen. Why can't they find it?" questioned the defence.

The defence also pointed out multiple defects in the remand application and argued that no substantial grounds for Shah's arrest were mentioned. The lawyer asserted, "Everything about his ride from Borivali to the accident is known to them," questioning why custody should be extended based solely on crime severity.

Mihir Shah's mother and sister were also detained for allegedly helping him hide in a flat in Virar. Police are investigating whether Rajesh Shah was involved in concealing his son's whereabouts after the incident.

Rajrishi Bidawat's police custody has been extended until July 11 by a Mumbai court as part of ongoing investigations into his role in aiding Mihir Shah post-accident.

The case continues to unfold as authorities seek to uncover all details surrounding this tragic event and ensure justice is served for Kaveri Nakhwa.
