Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Update: First Ride Expected In 2028; Confirms CM Devendra Fadnavis
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, being built in partnership with Japan, will finally be ready by 2028, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Monday, according to a PTI report. He said that people will be able to travel on the high-speed train by then.
Fadnavis made the announcement while speaking at an event on the India-Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) project, organised by VRF. He also shared that Maharashtra plans to raise USD 50 billion from international investors to improve infrastructure in the state. He mentioned that official announcements regarding this fund-raising will be made within the next four months.

During his speech, the Deputy Chief Minister also spoke about the development of Vadhavan Port. He said the port, which is being built on land reclaimed from the sea, will become operational in the next three to four years. The port is expected to help reduce logistics costs, especially because the turnaround time at the nearby Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is currently quite high.
Fadnavis further revealed that an airport will also be constructed next to Vadhavan Port. Like in many major global cities, this airport will be built on reclaimed land at sea. He also informed that there are plans to have a bullet train halt at the port, which will make the new port even more accessible.
To strengthen connectivity further, Fadnavis said a new highway is being built from Nashik to Vadhavan Port. This road will connect 17 districts of Maharashtra directly to the new port, making transport and trade easier. In addition, the state government is building the Shaktipeeth Highway to link Nagpur to Goa.
The Chief Minister said all these projects are important steps to improve Maharashtra's infrastructure and make it a major centre for trade and investment in the coming years.
