Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Sixth ‘Make In India’ Steel Bridge Completed In Surat
The construction of a 100-metre-long steel bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has been successfully completed in Surat, according to a Lokmat report. This is the sixth steel bridge built as part of the project in Gujarat, out of a total of 17 planned. The bridge has been constructed by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) over a four-lane stretch of the Western Railway and the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC).
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, covering a distance of 508 km, includes multiple river bridges and railway crossings. The newly built steel bridge in Surat is positioned 14.5 metres above the railway tracks. It measures 100 metres in length, 14.3 metres in width, and weighs 1,432 metric tonnes. The bridge components were manufactured at a factory in Bhuj, Gujarat. To facilitate its construction, traffic blocks were imposed on both the Western Railway and DFCC railway lines.

Five Steel Bridges Already Completed
Prior to this, five steel bridges have been completed at various locations along the route. These include:
- A 70-metre-long bridge in Surat
- A 100-metre-long bridge in Anand
- A 230-metre-long bridge in Vadodara (Mumbai Expressway)
- A 100-metre-long bridge in Silvassa (Dadra and Nagar Haveli)
- A 60-metre-long bridge in Vadodara
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has been divided into 11 phases. It includes:
- A 465-km-long viaduct
- 12 stations
- 28 steel bridges spanning a total of 10 km
- 24 river bridges
- A 97-km-long tunnel
The project aims to enhance high-speed rail connectivity between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, reducing travel time significantly and boosting infrastructure development in the region.
