Mumbai AC Local Train Leaks Amid Heavy Rains, Viral Video Sparks Outrage
Mumbai faced another day of relentless rainfall on Monday, with heavy downpours continuing since Sunday night. Amid the chaos, a video from an air-conditioned local train showing rainwater leaking through the AC vents went viral on social media, sparking outrage among commuters and citizens.
Viral Clip Exposes Water Leak Inside AC Local Train
The footage, shared on platform X (formerly Twitter) by a user named 'jai ho', captured rainwater seeping into a packed AC coach, with passengers wiping surfaces and visibly frustrated during peak morning hours. The caption read: "This is Mumbai's AC local... All rainwater coming inside. For this we pay so much ??????" The post tagged several key authorities, including the Railway Ministry, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and the Central and Western Railway.

Responding to the viral post, RailwaySeva - the official Twitter handle for railway support - acknowledged the issue and escalated it to the Mumbai Division of Central Railway. The tweet read: "For necessary action escalated to the concerned official," tagging the appropriate department.
Concerns Over Rail Infrastructure Amid Monsoon
The video has reignited concerns over the preparedness and maintenance of Mumbai's suburban railway infrastructure during the monsoon. AC local trains, introduced to enhance passenger comfort, are now facing criticism for their inability to withstand heavy rain, failing to provide basic weather protection.
Citywide Impact: Flooded Roads and Disrupted Travel
Mumbai's heavy rainfall led to widespread waterlogging across several key areas, especially in the western suburbs and South Mumbai. Roads in Marine Drive, Andheri, Kurla, and around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus were partially submerged, with many commuters stranded. The Andheri subway had to be shut down temporarily, while major roads like LBS Road in Kurla, DP Road in Powai, and the Saki Naka area reported traffic crawling due to flooding.
Train Services and Flights Affected
Local train services on the Central and Harbour lines were hit by delays, adding to the travel woes of office-goers. Air travel was also impacted, with IndiGo issuing advisories asking passengers to leave early for the airport due to traffic congestion and adverse weather. The airline added that ground staff were working to reduce disruption.
IMD Issues Orange Alert for Mumbai
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport also released a weather advisory, urging passengers to check flight updates in advance and plan for delays. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai Suburban, while Thane and Palghar districts remain under a yellow alert.
