MSRTC Launches Dedicated Helpline To Address Student Transport Challenges In Maharashtra

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to introduce a dedicated helpline specifically for school and college students. This initiative aims to tackle problems related to daily commuting such as delays, cancellations, route changes, and mechanical issues. Students will have a direct line to address these concerns, ensuring timely interventions.

Pratap Sarnaik, the State Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman, confirmed this development. "The helpline will provide students a direct channel to report problems and ensure timely assistance," he stated. Schools and colleges will receive contact details of all 31 divisional controllers, enabling students and educators to swiftly communicate urgent issues.

Student Helpline to Improve Accountability

Accountability is a key focus of this initiative. Sarnaik emphasised that transport mismanagement leading to academic losses will have consequences. "Bus depot managers and their supervisors will be held responsible for students' academic setbacks due to delayed or canceled buses," he said, adding that officials might face suspension or forced leave if students miss classes or exams.

The announcement came after students from the Dharashiv bus station complained about buses leaving late, bypassing stops, or getting canceled due to overcrowding. Sarnaik also mentioned that "Manav Vikas Buses," funded by the state social welfare fund, will serve students in remote and tribal regions, with a focus on schoolgirls, although some depots have breached these regulations.

MSRTC's Commitment to Academic Continuity

The helpline is designed to prevent disruptions in students' academic activities and ensure their safety while using MSRTC services. The General Manager (Traffic) of MSRTC has been tasked with enforcing these measures strictly to guarantee efficient service delivery.

MSRTC plays a crucial role in connecting over 90% of Maharashtra's villages to various hubs like district headquarters, taluka centers, and educational institutions. This extensive network is vital for facilitating students' access to education, reinforcing the importance of reliable transportation services.

These new measures reflect MSRTC's commitment to addressing transportation challenges faced by students across the state. By establishing direct communication channels and enforcing strict accountability, MSRTC aims to enhance the reliability and safety of its services, ensuring students can attend school without unnecessary disruptions.
