Mith Chowky Flyover Launch: Piyush Goyal Unveils This T-Shaped Flyover For Light Vehicles; Know More Inside

On Sunday, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal officially opened a new one-lane T-shaped flyover at Mith Chowky, designed for light vehicles. The flyover stretches 800 metres and features two arms extending to the east and south. It begins near Girdhar Park Bridge in Malvani, crosses over Malad Creek, and runs above the busy Mith Chowky traffic junction.

Mith Chowky is known for its heavy traffic, as it connects routes from Madh Island, Kandivali, Borivali, Andheri, and Versova. This new flyover aims to significantly reduce congestion in the area, especially for vehicles travelling from Marve and Malwani towards Malad railway station. Motorists will be able to bypass the busy junction below, which often causes delays.

The southern arm of the flyover, which will connect Marve to Goregaon, is expected to open by the end of December. However, it is important to note that this section will only accommodate light vehicles due to height restrictions linked to the Dahisar to Andheri West Metro-2 project.

Work is still ongoing on the flyover's section that connects to Link Road, with officials projecting completion by December. The eastern arm of the flyover, which starts from Girdhar Park, passes over Malad Creek and reaches near St Joseph's School, will allow vehicles to continue towards Malad station and the Western Express Highway (WEH). The southbound arm will drop onto Link Road, providing easier access to places like Infiniti Mall and Andheri.

Piyush Goyal, who represents North Mumbai as an MP, has been actively overseeing the project's progress since it began on April 11, 2022. He has urged the team to speed up construction. The total cost of the flyover is Rs 45 crore, and it is expected to reduce delays at the Mith Chowky junction, where traffic can back up for up to 20 minutes during peak hours.

As the state prepares for assembly elections, the government's decision to partially open the flyover could be viewed as a way to gain support from local residents. Many motorists expressed their gratitude, with one stating, "This bridge is a Navratri gift to Mumbaikars. It is much needed, especially with the growing population in areas like Charkop and Malwani. It will finally make the commute through the Mith Chowky junction smoother."
