Metro 2A and 7 Routes Make Mumbai Metro Rs 17.70 Lakh Richer Thanks to Film Industry; Find Out How
The Mumbai Metro has seen a significant boost in revenue, thanks to the film industry. The metro lines DN Nagar to Dahisar (Metro 2A) and Andheri East to Dahisar (Metro 7) have collectively earned Rs 17.70 lakh this year through various film shootings.
This income has substantially contributed to the coffers of Mahamumbai Metro, which is now exploring innovative ways to generate additional revenue.

Mahamumbai Metro has strategically decided to leverage its infrastructure by renting out metro stations and trains for shooting movies, serials, web series, and other media productions. To this end, they are offering metro facilities to event management firms, program organizers, media production houses, educational institutions, film producers, and even government agencies.
The cost for filming on a metro train is Rs 2.50 lakh per hour, and the same amount is charged for filming at a metro station or depot. If both locations are used simultaneously, the charge increases to Rs 3.75 lakh per hour. These rates make the metro an attractive location for high-budget productions.
Metro 7, which passes near Goregaon and Aarey Colony, is particularly popular for filming due to its proximity to Film City. Mahamumbai Metro expects this route to continue being a preferred choice for filmmakers.
In addition to revenue from operations, Mahamumbai Metro is exploring other avenues for income, such as permitting advertisements at stations and inside trains, as well as renting space for shops at metro stations.
One of the notable projects this year was a film produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali's production house, which was shot at one of the metro stations. This single project brought in Rs 17.70 lakh, marking a successful venture for Mahamumbai Metro in capitalizing on its infrastructure.
