Maharashtra: Who Are the Likely Deputy CM Picks For Fadnavis?
The political landscape in Maharashtra is undergoing significant changes with the announcement of new deputy chief ministers. According to reports, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, from the NCP, are set to be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra. This development comes after the reveal that Eknath Shinde, who previously held the position of Chief Minister, will now serve in a different capacity within the state's government.
Shinde is scheduled to take his oath alongside Ajit Pawar, marking a new chapter in Maharashtra's governance. This ceremony is set to take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, and will be a significant event for the Shiv Sena party and its supporters. The news was confirmed by sources within Shiv Sena, indicating a strategic reshuffle in the state's leadership roles.

Devendra Fadnavis, a leader from the BJP, has been elected unopposed as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. His swearing-in ceremony is also slated for Thursday, December 5, 2024, and will be graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks a pivotal moment for the BJP in Maharashtra, showcasing the party's influence and strength in the state's political sphere.
Fadnavis, after being elected as the leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party, met with Governor CP Radhakrishnan along with Shinde and Pawar. Their meeting was to stake a claim for forming the Mahayuti government, signifying a collaborative effort to govern Maharashtra. Fadnavis shared insights on the upcoming government formation and the swearing-in ceremony. He expressed his confidence in Shinde's participation and contribution to the new government, highlighting the collective ambition to fulfill promises made to the people of Maharashtra.
"The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held tomorrow at 5:30 pm in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We will finalise by evening who will take the oath tomorrow. Yesterday, I met Eknath Shinde and requested him to join us in this government, as it is the wish of Mahayuti workers. I am confident he will be with us. We will fulfil the promises made to the people of Maharashtra," said Fadnavis.
Reflecting on his tenure and the achievements of the previous government, Eknath Shinde shared his satisfaction and pride in the work accomplished. He emphasized the historical significance of their governance, praising the collaborative efforts that led to impactful decisions for the state.
"I am very happy with the completion of two-and-a-half years. The work done by our government–the Mahayuti government–by the three of us and our team in the last 2.5 years is remarkable. It will be written in golden letters in history. We are proud to have taken such significant decisions," Shinde remarked.
