As of Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the water levels in Mumbai's seven reservoirs have reached 93.20 per cent. The total water stock in these lakes is currently 13,48,886 million litres, which is 93.23 per cent of their full capacity.

Mumbai sources its water from Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna lakes. According to BMC data, the water levels in these lakes are as follows:

Tansa Lake: 97.56 per cent
Modak Sagar Lake: 97.59 per cent
Middle Vaitarna Lake: 97.30 per cent
Upper Vaitarna Lake: 89.32 per cent
Bhatsa Lake: 91.31 per cent
Vihar Lake: 100 per cent
Tulsi Lake: 99.25 per cent

Due to heavy rainfall, several lakes have started overflowing. Middle Vaitarna Lake began overflowing on July 4, followed by Vihar and Modak Sagar lakes on July 25. On July 24, around 4 pm, Tansa Lake also began to overflow, resulting in a 17-day increase in the water stored across all reservoirs in just one day.

Tansa Lake, located in the Shahpur region of Thane, provides approximately 400 million gallons of water to Mumbai and overflowed on July 26, 2024. Additionally, Tulsi Lake, which directly supplies water to the BMC, started overflowing on July 20 at around 8:30 am, similar to the overflow event that occurred on the same date last year at 1:28 pm.
