Mumbai Rain Woes

On Friday, residents of Mumbai were advised to stay indoors until 8:30 am due to a red alert issued by the IMD for heavy rainfall. The Mumbai Police urged people to remain inside and only go out if absolutely necessary. In case of emergencies, residents were advised to contact emergency numbers 100 or 112.

The severe weather led to significant disruptions, including the cancellation of eleven flights and the diversion of ten to nearby airports such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Hyderabad, Indore, and MOPA in Goa. Airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, recommended passengers to check their flight status and arrive early at the airport due to traffic congestion and waterlogging in the city.

On July 26, Mumbai recorded 44 millimetres of rain in the city, 90 millimetres in the eastern suburbs, and 89 millimetres in the western suburbs. The Santacruz observatory has reported over 1,500 millimetres of rain this month, making it the second-wettest July in Mumbai's history. The heavy rain has resulted in four fatalities: three from electrocution in Pune and two from drowning in Thane's Barvi Dam.

Residents were advised to avoid waterlogged areas, stay informed through reliable sources, prepare an emergency kit, manage electrical safety, and keep in touch with family and authorities for further updates and instructions.
