Maharashtra Weather: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Heavy Rain In Mumbai, Thane, Palghar; Red Alert For Raigad
Maharashtra Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted significant rainfall in Mumbai and its neighbouring districts. An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri starting from August 24. This alert indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four to five days.
A low-pressure system over northern West Bengal and northeast Jharkhand, along with another over the east-central Arabian Sea near Maharashtra, is expected to cause widespread rain across Maharashtra within the next 48 hours. "The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in some areas of Mumbai city and its suburbs in the next 3-4 hours. Citizens are advised to be cautious," stated the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in an SMS alert on Saturday morning.

Orange Alert for Western Maharashtra
In addition to Mumbai and Konkan regions, the IMD has also issued an orange alert for Pune and Satara districts in western Maharashtra. Vidarbha's Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, and Gondia districts are also under this warning for Saturday. The orange alert signifies rainfall exceeding 64.5 mm within 24 hours, which could disrupt daily activities and lead to flooding in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been announced for several districts excluding a few in western Maharashtra and Marathwada. This warning predicts thunderstorms with lightning and light-to-moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 kmph on Saturday.
Precautionary Measures Advised
The IMD's alerts aim to prepare residents for potential disruptions due to severe weather conditions. With heavy rains anticipated, citizens are urged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
For August 25 and 26, the IMD continues with the orange alert for certain districts in Konkan and western Maharashtra. These alerts highlight the need for vigilance as heavy rains can significantly impact normal life.
The weather department's warnings underscore the importance of readiness during such periods of intense rainfall. Residents should remain cautious and follow advisories from local authorities to mitigate risks associated with severe weather events.
