Maharashtra Weather Forecast: IMD issues Yellow Alert In Mumbai; Check State Weather Update For Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts Mumbai to have a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius, with cloudy skies and heavy rainfall expected throughout the day.

Following this forecast, IMD has issued a 'yellow' alert for Mumbai over the next three days, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall. This alert follows significant waterlogging in the city due to heavy rainfall earlier this week, notably between 2:30 am and 5:30 am on July 8 and 9, primarily affecting the eastern and western suburbs, marking the season's first extreme rainfall event.

Maharashtra Weather Forecast

IMD scientist Naresh Kumar attributes Mumbai's heavy rainfall to a 'shear zone' pattern at upper levels of the atmosphere. "The monsoon has been highly active recently, with a prominent low-pressure system and a strong upper-level shear zone over the region. This weather pattern has led to heavy rainfall not only in Mumbai but also in Goa and is expected to continue over Konkan and Goa in the coming days," he explained.

Five-Day Weather Forecast for Mumbai

July 13: The minimum temperature will be 24 degrees Celsius, and the maximum will be around 29 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected throughout the day.

July 14: The minimum temperature will remain at 24 degrees Celsius, with the maximum reaching 29 degrees Celsius. Rain is forecasted.

July 15: The minimum temperature will be 25 degrees Celsius, and the maximum will be 29 degrees Celsius. Expect a cloudy sky with heavy rain.

July 16: The minimum temperature will drop to 24 degrees Celsius, and the maximum will be 28 degrees Celsius. Rain is anticipated.

July 17: The minimum temperature will be 24 degrees Celsius, and the maximum will be 28 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected.

IMD Issues Weather Alerts

The IMD has issued weather alerts for multiple districts in Maharashtra. A yellow alert has been issued for Palghar and Sindhudurg, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the ghat areas of Nasik and Kolhapur. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are most likely to occur at isolated places in Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, and Wardha.

An orange alert has also been issued for Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Furthermore, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the ghat areas of Pune and Satara.

Maharashtra Monsoon Update

The IMD predicts that there is a possibility of more than average rainfall in most parts of Maharashtra. The 'El Nino' condition may remain neutral in the initial phase. But in the second phase of monsoon i.e. in July or August, 'La Nina' condition is likely to occur. The Meteorological Department has clarified that the La Nina conditions are favourable for this year's monsoon in the country.
