Maharashtra Tourism Security Force To Launch In Response To Pahalgam Terror Attack
In response to the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the Maharashtra state government has decided to create a dedicated Tourism Security Force, as per a Hindustan Times (HT) report. The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors at major tourist destinations across the state.
The Maharashtra Tourism Security Force will be launched on a pilot basis during the upcoming Mahabaleshwar festival, which is set to take place from May 2 to 4 at the Satara hill station. This initiative comes as part of the government's commitment to safeguarding tourists, especially in the wake of security concerns raised by the recent attack in Pahalgam.

Personnel for the new security force will be recruited from the Maharashtra State Security Corporation. The force will be in operation during the pilot phase until August 31. Initially, 25 personnel will be deployed to Mahabaleshwar to ensure the safety and well-being of the thousands of visitors expected during the festival.
Senior officers from the Satara district police will oversee the force's operations, ensuring a smooth implementation of security measures. The funding for the initiative will be provided by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), with the state government taking the necessary steps to ensure this project is adequately supported.
Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai confirmed the announcement on Monday, emphasising the importance of maintaining high standards of safety for tourists visiting the state's popular destinations. The new force is expected to act as a deterrent to potential threats and provide quick response capabilities to any emergencies during the tourist season.
As part of the initiative, the Tourism Security Force will not only provide enhanced security measures at popular tourist spots but also help in the coordination of emergency services, such as medical assistance and disaster management. The government aims to create a secure environment, encouraging more tourists to visit Maharashtra's scenic destinations without concerns over their safety.
This move is seen as a positive step towards reinforcing the state's tourism industry and ensuring that the safety of visitors remains a top priority.
