Maharashtra School Holidays: Schools To Stay Closed For 3 Days In November - Here’s Why

The Maharashtra Education Department has recommended closing schools on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of November due to the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections. This decision comes as a precautionary measure since many teachers will be occupied with election duties and a significant number of schools will be converted into polling stations. The directive aims to facilitate the smooth execution of the election process by freeing up these educational institutions and their staff for election-related responsibilities.

As the state gears up for the 20th November elections, the involvement of teachers in the electoral process is inevitable. Schools, often used as polling venues, will need to be handed over to election authorities for necessary preparations ahead of the voting day. This transition necessitates the temporary closure of these institutions to accommodate the election setup and ensure that everything runs smoothly on the day of voting.

Tushar Mahajan, the Deputy Secretary of the School Education Department, has already forwarded a circular to the Education Commissioner, underlining the importance of school closures to ensure the elections' seamless management. This preemptive move aims to address the logistical challenges posed by the dual use of school premises for educational and electoral purposes.

Mahendra Ganpule, a former headmaster, supports the decision, acknowledging the disruption to educational activities due to the significant involvement of teachers in the election process. He further suggests that school management and local authorities carefully consider their specific circumstances before deciding on closures, emphasizing that a blanket approach may not be suitable for every area.
