Maharashtra’s EV Policy 2025: 100% Toll Waiver On Expressways, Up To 15% Discount On Vehicles

In a major step towards promoting green transport, the Maharashtra government has announced a complete toll waiver for all four-wheeler electric passenger vehicles and buses. As per a mid-day report, this toll exemption will apply on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and the Samruddhi Mahamarg. Additionally, electric vehicles will get a 50 per cent discount on toll charges on other state and national highways managed by the state's Public Works Department (PWD).

This decision is part of the newly approved Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy, 2025, which was cleared by the state cabinet on Tuesday.

To encourage more people to buy and use electric vehicles (EVs), the government has also exempted EVs sold and registered in the state from motor vehicle tax and registration or renewal fees. Buyers will receive financial incentives, including discounts on the purchase of new EVs until the year 2030.

According to a statement from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' office, those buying electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheeler non-transport vehicles, as well as electric buses, will get a 10 per cent discount on the original price. In addition, electric three-wheeler cargo vehicles, transport four-wheelers, light cargo vehicles, and even electric tractors and combine harvesters will receive a 15 per cent discount.

CM Fadnavis said, "Manufacturing and consumption will get a boost due to this concession and subsidies." He also announced that the policy will stay in effect till 2030, and the government has made a financial provision of Rs 1,993 crore for the next five years to support this initiative.

To solve the problem of EV charging, the government has promised to set up charging stations every 25 kilometres on state and national highways. This move aims to make long-distance travel by electric vehicles more convenient and reliable.

The policy is expected to reduce pollution, support the growth of the EV industry, and help the state move towards a cleaner and greener future.
