Maharashtra: Rajesh More Takes Center Stage as Shiv Sena Shinde Faction's Hope for Kalyan Rural
Kalyan Rural, a prominent Shiv Sena bastion, has a history of electing representatives from both the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena. In the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024, the MNS has re-nominated its sitting MLA, Raju Patil, while the Shiv Sena Shinde faction has put forward Rajesh More, and the Shiv Sena-UBT faction has chosen former MLA Subhash Bhoir. The Maha Yuti alliance is banking on strategic leadership by MP Shrikant Shinde, a series of development projects initiated by the alliance, and the decision to field grassroots leader Rajesh More, making the Maha Yuti a formidable contender in the region.

Shinde vs. Patil: The Battle for Kalyan Rural
As Kalyan Rural falls under the Lok Sabha constituency of MP Shrikant Shinde, he has made it a personal mission to reclaim the seat from MNS. Shinde has ramped up his campaign, which includes roadshows, direct engagements with voters, and meetings with local officials. A key focus of this effort is the Diva area, which plays a pivotal role in deciding the outcome of the constituency. To further strengthen his campaign, Shinde addressed the concerns of former Thane Mayor Ramakant Madhvi, ensuring his active participation. With strong support from BJP activists and the inclusion of Ajit Pawar faction members, the Shinde faction is optimistic about regaining control of Kalyan Rural.
Rajesh More: A Candidate with Strong Local Roots
Rajesh More, who began his political journey with the NCP, later joined Shiv Sena and has developed a close association with Shrikant Shinde. Known for his calm and composed nature, More has a solid track record in party-building and has previously served as House Leader. His tenure as Dombivli's city chief has given him an expansive local network, which is crucial since the constituency includes 31 wards of Dombivli. More's deep connections and widespread popularity in the area give him a distinct advantage in Kalyan Rural.
Maha Yuti's Development Agenda for Kalyan Rural
The Maha Yuti alliance has made significant strides in infrastructure development in both Dombivli and Kalyan Rural. Key initiatives include the construction of cement-concrete roads, road widening projects, the establishment of a metro network, and the creation of new healthcare facilities. These development projects have been facilitated under the leadership of Shrikant Shinde, who has worked diligently to ensure that government schemes reach the grassroots level. While Raju Patil previously claimed credit for these projects under the slogan "Kalyan is Changing," it is clear that the majority of these initiatives have been backed by the Maha Yuti government, making Rajesh More a stronger candidate for the constituency.
Diverse Community Dynamics in Kalyan Rural
A significant aspect of the Kalyan Rural election is the division of votes among the Agri community, with Raju Patil, Rajesh More, and Subhash Bhoir all hailing from this group. This could lead to a split in Agri votes, making it a crucial factor in the race. The OBC community is generally aligned with the BJP, while the Maratha and other communities appear to support the Shiv Sena Shinde faction and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. This complex voting dynamic is expected to favor the Maha Yuti coalition, which political analysts believe has a strong chance of securing victory in Kalyan Rural.
Infrastructure Projects Drive Support for Maha Yuti
Under the Maha Yuti-led government, several critical infrastructure projects have been completed in Kalyan Rural. These include the expansion of the Kalyan-Shilphata road, construction of internal city roads, and the Kalyan-Taloja Metro link. Additionally, the government has allocated substantial funds for the development of tourist destinations in the rural areas of Kalyan, including ₹10 crore for Malanggad, ₹5 crore for Durgadi Fort, and ₹5 crore for the Umbarkli Hill Sanctuary. Residents of the constituency are of the view that the continuation of these developmental works hinges on electing a Maha Yuti candidate, with Rajesh More being seen as the most likely to carry forward the progress.
As the Maharashtra Assembly elections nears, Kalyan Rural is shaping up to be a crucial battleground, where development, local leadership, and community support will play a pivotal role in determining the winner.
