Maharashtra's Modi Awas Yojana: Homes for OBC Homeless Families
The Maharashtra government launches Modi Awas Yojana, aiming to build over 15 lakh houses for the OBC homeless, with a budget of Rs 12,000 crore.
The Maharashtra government, led by Eknath Shinde, is working on the motto "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas." They recently launched the Modi Awas Yojana for homeless people from the OBC category. This plan aims to build over 15 lakh houses across the state.
Under this scheme, 6,739 houses have been approved in Nagpur district. So far, 651 houses have been built, providing shelter to many homeless families. The state plans to spend around Rs 12,000 crore on this scheme.

The scheme is named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It targets those in rural areas who missed out on benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Awas Yojana. For the first year, 2023-24, a target of 6,747 houses was set for Nagpur district.
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has received proposals for these houses. Out of these, 6,739 houses have been sanctioned. The approval process for the remaining eight houses is underway.
Homeless families have also benefited from other schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Raigad and Shabri Yojana. The Shinde government is providing shelter to the needy through these schemes.
The Modi Awas Yojana is a significant step towards providing homes to the homeless in Maharashtra. With a focus on rural areas and OBC beneficiaries, the scheme aims to ensure that no one is left behind in the state's development journey.
