Maharashtra Elections: PM Modi Launches Rs 32,000 Crore Projects; Focus On Metro, Roads, And Farmers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Maharashtra on Saturday to inaugurate a series of infrastructure projects worth Rs 32,180 crore. The projects are aimed at boosting urban development, transport, and agriculture in the election-bound state. Among the key developments is the first phase of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 Aqua Line, as well as the foundation stone-laying for the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail project.
1. Mumbai Metro Line 3 Aqua Line
One of the highlights of PM Modi's visit is the inauguration of the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3 Aqua Line. This phase, built at a cost of Rs 14,120 crore, is expected to serve around 1.3 million passengers daily, according to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL). The overall project cost is estimated at Rs 37,276 crore, and the entire line is expected to enhance urban mobility in Mumbai.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail project, a crucial part of the metro network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This 29-kilometre project will consist of 20 elevated and two underground stations, with an estimated cost of Rs 12,200 crore. The project, which is jointly funded by the central and state governments along with international agencies, was recently approved by the Union Cabinet and is expected to be completed by 2029.
2. Road Projects And Airport Development
PM Modi will also launch the Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension in Thane, a major road infrastructure project costing Rs 3,310 crore. The extension is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity within Thane. Alongside this, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project, valued at Rs 2,550 crore. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) of Maharashtra is overseeing this project, which aims to boost urbanisation around the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport.
PM Modi's visit will also include the commencement of the construction of the Thane Municipal Corporation, a project that will cost approximately Rs 700 crore.
3. Agricultural And Animal Husbandry
In Washim district, before heading to Thane, PM Modi will launch several initiatives related to agriculture and animal husbandry. These projects, collectively worth Rs 23,300 crore, aim to support rural livelihoods and boost Maharashtra's agrarian economy. The initiatives will focus on improving farm productivity and supporting livestock development, which are crucial for the state's agricultural sector.
4. 18th Instalment of PM-KISAN Scheme
During his visit, PM Modi will also release Rs 20,000 crore under the 18th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. This instalment will benefit over 94 million farmers across India through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). In Maharashtra, nearly 9.15 million farmers will receive over Rs 1,900 crore from this instalment, while the state's own Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana will disburse an additional Rs 2,000 crore to local farmers.
So far, Maharashtra has received about Rs 32,000 crore in 17 instalments under PM-KISAN, benefiting around 12 million farmers, the second-highest figure among all Indian states. With the latest instalment, the total amount disbursed under PM-KISAN will surpass Rs 3.45 trillion, providing crucial support to more than 110 million farmers nationwide.
