Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion: Key Portfolio Assignments Almost Finalised | Who Will Get Which Ministry

The discussions on portfolio allocation among the ruling Mahayuti allies - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Shiv Sena - have entered their final phase. However, Shiv Sena is reportedly adamant about securing key ministries, including the crucial Home portfolio.

Sources indicate that the BJP is keen on retaining control over both the Home and Urban Development ministries. While the BJP has reportedly agreed to allocate only two or three ministries to its allies, it is said to offer the Revenue, Housing, and Public Works Department (PWD) ministries to Shiv Sena and NCP.

As per the discussions, the Shiv Sena is expected to receive the Revenue and PWD portfolios, while Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed interest in securing Urban Development. If Shinde does not agree, the Urban Development ministry will remain with Shiv Sena, and the Revenue portfolio will likely be allocated to the BJP.

Ministries Likely to Stay with BJP
Key ministries such as Home, Urban Development, Revenue (one of the two), Law and Judiciary, General Administration, Rural Development, Electricity, Energy, Public Works, Environment, Forest, and Tribal Affairs are expected to remain under BJP control.

Ministries for Shiv Sena
Shiv Sena is expected to secure ministries such as Revenue-Urban Development (one of the two), Public Works (PWD), Labor, School Education, State Excise, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Transport.

NCP's Likely Portfolios
The NCP is expected to retain key ministries, including Finance and Planning, Housing, Medical Education, Food and Civil Supplies, Women and Child Welfare, Relief and Rehabilitation, and Food and Drug Administration.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to expand his Cabinet ahead of the Winter Session, which begins on December 16 in Nagpur. The cabinet expansion could take place in the next two days.

Additionally, some BJP and Shiv Sena ministers from the previous government, whose performance was under scrutiny, may be dropped.

Portfolio Allocation Breakdown
- BJP: 20-21 ministries
- Shiv Sena: 12-13 ministries
