Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: MVA Set To Finalise Seat-Sharing Strategy Ahead Of Dussehra
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has concluded its discussions on seat-sharing for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. The coalition, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), is preparing to announce the details before Dussehra, which falls on October 12. This news was shared by members of the opposition alliance on Wednesday, as reported by Hindustan Times (HT).
The Maharashtra assembly consists of 288 seats. According to Jitendra Awhad, a leader from the NCP (SP), the coalition has finalised arrangements for approximately 200 to 250 seats. He stated in HT, "We have completed our talks for 200 to 250 seats. There is no doubt that sitting MLAs will again be fielded from their respective constituencies."

Nana Patole, the state president of Congress, confirmed that discussions among the allies are progressing well. He mentioned, "There is no conflict among us. We have also started our discussions with smaller allies, such as the Communist Party and the Samajwadi Party. We are hoping to complete our seat-sharing talks by Dussehra."
Patole emphasised that decisions will be made based on the merits of each candidate. He added, "Soon there will be clarity on the seat discussion."
Sources close to the negotiations, who preferred to remain anonymous, indicated that the allies have broadly settled on a formula for seat distribution. Under this arrangement, the Congress is expected to contest 100 to 110 seats, the Shiv Sena (UBT) between 90 to 100 seats, and the NCP (SP) on 80 to 85 seats.
As the coalition gears up for the elections, the final announcement is eagerly awaited by party members and supporters alike. The MVA aims to present a united front in the upcoming elections, hoping to strengthen their position in the Maharashtra assembly.
