Kunal Kamra 'Mocks' Eknath Shinde: Three New Cases Filed Against Comedian In Mumbai

Trouble for stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra increased a bit more as three new cases have been filed in Mumbai's Khar Police Station over allegedly making disrespectful comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

According to the reports, three different people filed complaints against Kamra - the Mayor of Jalgaon city, a hotel owner, and a businessman from Nashik. Although the police have called Kamra twice for questioning, he hasn't shown up yet.

Worried about possible arrest, Kamra asked the Madras High Court for protection. Justice Sunder Mohan granted him temporary bail until April 7, with certain conditions. Kamra sought this legal protection because he was receiving threats after his controversial jokes.

The trouble started when Kamra made a "gaddar" (traitor) joke that seemed to be about Eknath Shinde. This angered many political leaders who demanded action against him. The situation got worse when Shinde's youth group, Yuva Sena, damaged the Habitat comedy venue where Kamra had performed.

In his defense, Kamra criticized mainstream media for acting like "vultures" who focus on unimportant issues instead of real problems facing the country. He also said comedy venues shouldn't be blamed for what comedians say during their shows. Kamra compared attacking a venue over a comedian's words to overturning a tomato truck because you didn't like a dish in a restaurant.

Take a Poll

Despite calls to apologize, Kamra stood firm on his right to freedom of expression. He argued that making jokes about public figures isn't against the law and that freedom of speech shouldn't be limited to just praising powerful people.
