Kama Hospital Launches State’s First Urogynac Center: Free Care For Women’s Abdominal Diseases

In a significant development for women's health, Kama Hospital will soon launch the Urogynac Center, an independent facility dedicated to treating abdominal diseases. This initiative, reported by Lokmat, marks the first such centre in a government hospital in the state. The new centre is part of the Medical Education Department's efforts to enhance healthcare services, particularly for women.

Abdominal diseases, which include urinary tract infections, prolapsed uterus, urinary incontinence, prolapsed bladder, and urinary fistula, are prevalent among women. Treatment is typically provided by specialists like gynecologists or urologists. However, there are very few experts who possess comprehensive knowledge in both fields.

Dr. Aparna Hegde, a trained specialist with international experience, is leading this initiative. She has been appointed as the Honorary Associate Professor at the centre and aims to offer services to underserved patients. Remarkably, the establishment of the Urogynac Center has been made possible through generous contributions from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund of a private company.

Additionally, Kama Hospital has renovated its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which now features 21 beds and modern equipment, including advanced ventilators. To ensure safety and hygiene, the NICU's doors are equipped with sensors to prevent contamination.

The Urogynac Center will provide free diagnosis and treatment for various abdominal diseases, making it a vital resource for patients who previously had to seek care in private hospitals. Dr. Tushar Palve, Superintendent of Kama Hospital, emphasised the centre's potential to significantly benefit low-income patients.

Both the Urogynac Center and the renovated NICU will be inaugurated soon, signalling a positive step forward in healthcare for women and infants in the region.
