In First Electoral Test Post Split, BJP-Ajit Pawar Reigns In Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Polls

In the first electoral test for Ajit Pawar post the NCP split, the freshly minted BJP-Pawar combine saw great success in the ongoing Maharashtra Gram Panchayat elections. Overall the BJP leads as the largest party with victories in over 700 seats, while Ajit Pawar's group has secured 407 seats, and Shinde's Shiv Sena has won 262 seats.

What is noteworthy is that Ajit Pawar's NCP secured victories in 27 out of 31 Gram Panchayats in his hometown of Baramati. At the ancestral home of his uncle Sharad Pawar in Katewadi, Ajit's party won 13 out of 15 Gram Panchayat seats. This election marked the first one after the NCP division in July.

In First Electoral Test Post Split, BJP-Ajit Pawar Reigns In Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Polls

On the previous Sunday, elections were contested in 2,369 Gram Panchayats in Maharashtra. The BJP had claimed that they would win 70% of the seats, and as of now, they have indeed secured over 700 Gram Panchayat seats, followed by the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) with 407 seats. This election marked the first electoral contest after the NCP split between Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar, and it is clear that Ajit Pawar's faction has dominated.

Many well-known and top leaders actively participated in this Gram Panchayat election, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde, BJP leader Pankaja Munde, Harshvardhan Patil, and others who put in their full efforts to secure as many seats as possible.

Meanwhile, Mahayuti has achieved significant success in this Maharashtra Gram Panchayat election, indicating that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's leadership has been accepted by the people of Maharashtra. Many political analysts and experts view this as a litmus test for the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The reputation of many veteran leaders is at stake in this election. There have been both victories and upsets, with Minister Deepak Kesarkar's panel suffering a defeat in Konkan, while MLA Nitish Rane's panel saw success. In North Maharashtra, Minister Gulabrao Patil's panel maintained its reputation by winning multiple seats.

Following this grand success, the Shinde group has claimed that Mahayuti has passed its litmus test. In the results so far, Mahayuti has won 1,278 seats, while Mahavikas Aghadi had to settle for 498 seats. After the resounding victory of Mahayuti, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has targeted Mahavikas Aghadi.

Many veteran leaders, MLAs, and ministers were active in this Gram Panchayat election, demonstrating that the BJP tested its alliance and emerged successful. The parties in Mahayuti will now aim to leverage this grand victory as an advantage and X-factor for the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

Previously, the ruling BJP, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) - Ajit Pawar faction came together to form the alliance Mahayuti. During the formation of this alliance, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasised the goal of winning 45 out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Mahayuti is now looking to capitalise on this success in the best possible way for the upcoming elections.

The defeat for Mahavikas Aghadi is quite alarming and a matter of concern for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. While each election has different agendas and reasons for voting, the dominance in this Gram Panchayat Election clearly suggests that the upcoming Lok Sabha election will be challenging for Mahavikas Aghadi.
