IMD Issues Red, Orange & Yellow Alerts Across Maharashtra: Pune On Red, Mumbai On Orange – Check Your Region
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for various regions across Maharashtra, with warnings for extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the coming days. Here's a detailed breakdown of the regions affected:
Red Alert: Extremely Heavy Rainfall

Regions under red alert will experience extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places. The following districts are affected: Raigad and Pune.
Orange Alert: Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall
An orange alert has been issued for regions expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated places: Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Ahmednagar and Washim.
Yellow Alert: Moderate To Heavy Rainfall
The yellow alert highlights regions that may face thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall, along with gusty winds. Here's a list of affected districts: Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Satara, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani and Hingoli.
Additionally, the following regions may experience heavy rainfall in the ghat areas and light to moderate rain in the plains: Kolhapur, Akola and Amravati.
Some regions will also witness thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall along with gusty winds (30-40 kmph): Beed, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in isolated areas of Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gondia, Nagpur and Wardha.
Finally, the IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated places in Buldhana, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal.
Mumbai Weather Today
Today, Mumbai will experience a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain throughout the day. The temperature will range between 23 degrees Celsius in the morning and reach a high of 29 degrees Celsius during the afternoon. Residents are advised to be prepared for possible heavy showers and to carry umbrellas or raincoats when stepping out.

September 26: The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with moderate rain. The temperature will vary between 23 degrees Celsius in the morning and 28 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
September 27: Similar weather conditions are expected, with a generally cloudy sky and moderate rain. The temperature will rise slightly, ranging between 25 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius.
September 28: The forecast remains consistent with a generally cloudy sky and moderate rain. The temperature will stay between 25 degrees Celsius in the morning and 30 degrees Celsius during the day.
September 29: Mumbai will continue to experience rain, with temperatures between 26 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius.
September 30: Rain is predicted once again, with temperatures remaining steady at 26 degrees Celsius in the morning and a high of 31 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

Mumbai Lakes Water Levels
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Tuesday morning that the water levels in Mumbai's seven reservoirs, which provide the city with drinking water, have reached 98.29 per cent. According to BMC data, the total water stock across these lakes is currently 14,22,634 million litres or 98.29 per cent of their full capacity.
Mumbai's water comes from seven main lakes: Upper and Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Tansa, Vihar, Tulsi, and Modak Sagar.
The water levels in each lake, as reported by the BMC, are as follows:
- Tansa is at 97.64 per cent.
- Modak Sagar holds 91.70 per cent of its water stock.
- Middle Vaitarna is at 99.09 per cent.
- Upper Vaitarna stands at 99.36 per cent.
- Bhatsa holds 98.97 per cent of its water stock.
- Both Vihar and Tulsi are at 100 per cent.
