IMD Issues Orange And Yellow Alerts In Maharashtra; Mumbai Lakes Near Full Capacity Amid Thunderstorm Warning

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), today Mumbai will experience partly cloudy conditions with varying chances of rain and thunderstorms.

The day will see temperatures ranging between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius. The sky will remain partly cloudy, with a possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the financial capital of India.

Mumbai Weather Forecast

October 21: Temperatures will rise slightly, ranging between 26 and 33 degrees Celsius. The forecast predicts a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

October 22: Temperatures are expected to peak at 34, with a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur towards the evening or night.

October 23: The temperature will range between 26 and 35 degrees Celsius. The sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the day.

October 24: Similar to the previous day, temperatures will hover between 26 and 35 degrees Celsius, with a partly cloudy sky forecasted.

Maharashtra Weather Update

The IMD has issued alerts for various regions in Maharashtra, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. Please take necessary precautions in the affected areas.

I. Orange Alert
An orange alert has been issued for Dhule, Nashik, the Ghats of Nashik, and Ahilyanagar. These areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall, gusty winds of 40-50 kilometres per hour, and hail at isolated places.

II. Yellow Alert
Several regions are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds at isolated places. These regions include but are not limited to Palghar, Thane, and Raigad.

Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Pune, the Ghats of Pune, Kolhapur, the Ghats of Kolhapur, Satara, the Ghats of Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, and Washim are also under the yellow alert. These places may experience thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds of 30-40 kilometres per hour at isolated locations.

Mumbai Lakes Water Level

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Saturday morning that the water levels in Mumbai's seven key reservoirs, which supply the city with drinking water, have reached 97.03 per cent of their total capacity. According to BMC data, the combined water stock of these reservoirs currently stands at 14,04,350 million litres.

Mumbai relies on seven lakes for its water supply: Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Tansa, Vihar, Tulsi, and Modak Sagar. The BMC has provided a detailed update on the water levels in each of these lakes.

Tansa: 97.31 per cent of its capacity.
Modak Sagar: 86.74 per cent of its capacity.
Middle Vaitarna: 99.84 per cent of its capacity.
Upper Vaitarna: 100 per cent of its capacity.
Bhatsa: 97.05 per cent of its capacity.
Vihar: 98.98 per cent of its capacity.
Tulsi: 96.28 per cent of its capacity.
