High Tension In Virar: BJP Leader Vinod Tawde Confronted Over Alleged Distributing Money

Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, a dramatic confrontation unfolded in Virar. Activists from the BVA and BJP clashed, with BJP leader Vinod Tawde present. Tawde, BJP's General Secretary, faced accusations from BVA leader Hitendra Thakur of distributing cash for votes.

The altercation between BJP and BVA workers has been captured on video and is circulating online. Hitendra Thakur, a sitting MLA, claimed that Vinod Tawde distributed Rs 5 crore to BJP workers during a meeting. Reports suggest police found a diary with records of money distribution at Vivanta Hotel in Virar, where Tawde and Rajendra Naik's son were present.

Opposition Criticises BJP

Opposition leaders have criticised the BJP over these allegations. Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut mocked the Election Commission, stating that Thakurs (referring to BVA leaders Hitendra and Kshitij Thakur) acted as the poll body should have while it was preoccupied with inspecting opposition leaders' bags.

BJP leaders defended Vinod Tawde, asserting that he was merely conducting an election meeting. They dismissed the allegations as false. According to reports, BJP spokesperson Manoj Barot described the claims as a BVA stunt. He stated that Tawde was there for poll planning and urged the Election Commission to investigate if money distribution occurred by checking hotel CCTV footage.

Election Day Approaches

Maharashtra will hold elections for its 288 assemblies on November 20. The Election Commission's rules mandate that campaigning ceased on Monday at 6 pm. No political events influencing voters are allowed after this deadline.

The incident has intensified scrutiny on election practices in Maharashtra. As accusations fly and videos circulate, both parties remain firm in their positions. The Election Commission faces pressure to ensure fair conduct during this crucial voting period.
