From Roadside Vendor To Maharashtra Minister - Remarkable Journey Of Gulabrao Patil
Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray united people from various castes to form Shiv Sena, a combative and aggressive organisation. The party's identity was a voice for the displaced.
Thousands of marginalised youths, denied political opportunities by the established families in conventional parties, rallied around the name Shiv Sena.

Hundreds of youth without any political background built their careers in Shiv Sena, fighting battles against the establishment and the administration.
Millions of people in Maharashtra stood firmly behind these Shiv Sainiks. One such Sainik, who started as a small vendor and rose to become the state's Water Supply Minister, is Gulabrao Patil.
Gulabrao is known for his fierce aggression, organisational skills, powerful oratory, the ability to control large gatherings with ease, his nature of gathering a crowd of workers, and his readiness to face any challenge fearlessly.
These traits are reflective of his aggressive and bold political career, fitting perfectly with the nature of Shiv Sena.
Patil began his political career in the 1990s and quickly emerged as a leader of the common people. Despite having no political legacy, he made a mark through his skills and oratory proficiency.
His native village is Ladli in Dharangaon Taluka, Jalgaon district, but his birthplace and current residence are in Paladhi, Dharangaon Taluka. His primary and secondary education took place in Paladhi, and he pursued higher education in Jalgaon city.
Joined Shiv Sena at 25
At the age of 25, Gulabrao opened a Shiv Sena branch in Paladhi, where he was the head. In 1991, he got an opportunity to speak at a rally organised for Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray in Chalisgaon.
His impactful speech there became the turning point of his career, cementing a close bond between him and Shiv Sena that remains strong to this day.
In 1992, he was elected as a member of the Erandol Panchayat Samiti, and during the same period, he became a director of the Dharangaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee.
From 1995 to 1999, he worked as the district head of Shiv Sena. In 1997, he was elected as a district council member and appointed the chairman of the agricultural committee of the Jalgaon District Council.
First Entry into Legislative Assembly
In 1999, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the first time from the Erandol constituency on a Shiv Sena ticket. He won consecutive victories in 1999 and 2004.
In 2010, he was appointed Shiv Sena's deputy leader. In the 2014 elections, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the third time. In July 2016, he was appointed Minister of State for Cooperation in Maharashtra and later as the Guardian Minister for Parbhani District.
In 2019, he was victorious from the Jalgaon Rural constituency. He held the portfolio of Water Supply and Sanitation Minister and was also the Guardian Minister for Jalgaon and Buldhana districts under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray and later Eknath Shinde.
Numerous development works in the constituency
During Patil's tenure, many infrastructure and development projects were carried out in his constituency. A bridge at Bhoker was constructed at a cost of Rs 132 crore, and a Rs 110 crore railway flyover at Mhaswad is another highlight of his career.
He successfully completed the Dharawa-Dharangaon Water Supply Project, which is currently being constructed at a cost of Rs 67 crore. Due to his efforts, a Taluka Hospital was built in Dharangaon, benefiting thousands of residents in the area.
The "Mazi Ladki Bhagin" scheme, launched under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's initiative, became highly popular in a short time. With the help of his party workers, Gulabrao Patil ensured that 20,000 beneficiaries in his constituency received the benefits of this scheme.
Strong Support for Eknath Shinde
In 2022, major upheavals took place within the Shiv Sena. 40 MLAs and eight ministers rejected Uddhav Thackeray's leadership and chose to support Eknath Shinde.
Gulabrao Patil was part of this faction. He gave fitting responses to the attacks from Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, and Sanjay Raut and clashed with their faction's MLAs even in the assembly.
Ready for another term in Assembly
Helping those in need is a permanent trait of every Shiv Sainik, and Gulabrao Patil is no different. He has a confrontational attitude, ready to face challenges head-on.
In the assembly, he has always vigorously defended his party's stance, and many of his speeches have become well-known.
Whatever he does, Patil does with determination and sees it through to the end.
Eknath Shinde has once again given this dedicated Shiv Sainik a chance. With the development work done so far and his oratory skills, Gulabrao Patil is ready for another term in the Legislative Assembly.
