For the first time in nearly two decades, Maharashtra will not hold its assembly elections simultaneously with Haryana. This significant change comes as the state prepares for its electoral process amid heightened security concerns.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar highlighted the need for heavy security deployment in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, indicating that similar precautions will be necessary in Maharashtra due to its vast size. The Election Commission is gearing up for a secure and orderly election process in the state, ensuring that voters can participate without any safety concerns.

Voter Demographics in Maharashtra

Maharashtra boasts a substantial electorate, with a total of 9.63 crore voters. The voter breakdown is as follows:

  • Male Voters: 4.96 crore
  • Female Voters: 4.66 crore
  • Young Voters (aged 18-24): 1.85 crore
  • First-Time Voters: Nearly 21 lakh
  • Assembly Seats and Political Landscape

The Maharashtra Assembly consists of 288 seats, with a majority mark set at 145. In the previous assembly elections held in 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party, securing 105 seats. However, the undivided Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena, and Indian National Congress came together to form the ruling coalition known as the Maha Vikas Aghadi.

The seat distribution among these parties was as follows:

  • Shiv Sena: 56 seats
  • Undivided Nationalist Congress Party (NCP): 54 seats
  • Indian National Congress: 44 seats

As the state gears up for this year's assembly elections, the political dynamics may shift, with voters keenly watching the parties' strategies and alliances. The focus will be on how each party mobilizes its voter base and addresses the pressing issues faced by the state.
