'Don't Want To Politicise This': Aaditya Thackeray On Mumbai Hit-And-Run Case

Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray, responded to the tragic incident in Mumbai's Worli where a speeding BMW fatally struck a couple resulting in death of a woman.

Thackeray met the victim's husband at a police station and called for the immediate arrest of the accused driver, saying, "It's heart-wrenching. I don't want to politicise this. We demand the culprit be arrested. I spoke with the victim; he recounted the incident as a clear hit-and-run."

On social media, Thackeray voiced concern over escalating traffic violations in Mumbai, urging severe penalties: "Wrong-way driving, running red lights, overcrowded vehicles... these offenses are rising. Hit-and-run incidents are now occurring! Even if the perpetrator is swiftly apprehended, prevention is crucial. This requires transcending politics and addressing these issues seriously! Drivers must be disciplined, and offenders punished severely!"

The collision occurred at 5:30 am as fish vendors Kaveri and Pradik Nakva were returning from Sassoon Dock, reported NDTV.

Their two-wheeler was struck by the BMW, causing the bike to overturn and throwing the couple onto the car's hood. The husband escaped, but tragically, the wife was dragged over 100 meters and succumbed to her injuries upon reaching the hospital.

According to police sources, the BMW's driver, 24-year-old Mihir Shah, is the son of a Shiv Sena leader affiliated with Eknath Shinde.

Allegedly intoxicated after a night out in Juhu, Shah insisted on driving from Worli to Goregaon, where the accident occurred. Following the collision, the car's number plate was reportedly concealed inside the vehicle to avoid identification.

Shah's father and their driver are currently under investigation, with efforts ongoing to locate Mihir Shah.
