Devendra Fadnavis' First Action As Maharashtra CM: Approves ₹5 Lakh Aid For Pune Patient

Devendra Fadnavis, after being sworn in as Maharashtra Chief Minister on Thursday, wasted no time in addressing public welfare by approving financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for a bone marrow transplant patient.

The funds, sanctioned under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, will benefit Chandrkant Shankar Kurhade, a resident of Pune.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, Fadnavis has instructed the administration to expedite processes and work with renewed vigour to meet public expectations. Emphasizing efficiency and sustainable development, he urged officials to delve deeper into issues and prioritize impactful decision-making.

A Grand Swearing-In Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony at Mumbai's Azad Maidan was a grand event attended by notable leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Fadnavis: A Journey of Leadership

Born on July 22, 1970, into a middle-class family in Nagpur, Devendra Fadnavis boasts a law degree, a postgraduate degree in business management, and a diploma in project management. His political career began in 1992 as a councillor in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, where he served two consecutive terms.

Elected as an MLA for five consecutive terms, Fadnavis served as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019, becoming the second-youngest to hold the office after Sharad Pawar. His tenure is remembered for flagship projects like:

  • Mumbai Next

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Krishi Sanman Scheme

He also briefly served as CM for five days during the 2019 Maharashtra political crisis.

Historic 2024 Election Victory

The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections were a landmark win for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, securing 235 seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, followed by the Shiv Sena (57 seats) and the NCP (41 seats). The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a major defeat, with Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) winning 16, 20, and 10 seats, respectively.

Fadnavis's immediate actions following his swearing-in reflect his dedication to public welfare, setting the tone for his new tenure as Maharashtra's Chief Minister.
