Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde To Meet Amit Shah In Delhi Tomorrow

The decision on Maharashtra's next Chief Minister remains uncertain as Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde are set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday. According to NDTV, this crucial meeting could finalize the leadership for the state.

Reports suggest that the BJP had initially agreed to make Shinde the Chief Minister before the elections. However, the party refrained from making a public announcement during the campaign. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MPs, including Naresh Mhaske, are also meeting Amit Shah to discuss the issue.

Shinde To Meet Shah Tomorrow

BJP Stands Firm on Fadnavis

The BJP has consistently backed Devendra Fadnavis for the CM post, rejecting the idea of replicating Bihar's "coalition-first" approach in Maharashtra. In Bihar, the BJP supported JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar as CM despite holding more seats. BJP national spokesperson Prem Shukla clarified that no pre-election commitment was made to continue Shinde as CM in Maharashtra.

"Unlike Bihar, where a prior announcement was made, there was no such commitment in Maharashtra. Moreover, the alliance with JD(U) in Bihar aimed to expand BJP's footprint in the state, which didn't materialize. Hence, the same model cannot be applied here," Shukla told Hindustan Times.

Shiv Sena's Argument for Shinde

Shiv Sena leaders, including spokesperson Naresh Mhaske, have advocated for Shinde to retain the CM position. Citing the Bihar example, Mhaske argued, "In Bihar, BJP overlooked seat numbers to prioritize coalition dynamics. We believe Shinde should remain the Chief Minister, but senior Mahayuti leaders will ultimately decide."
Election Results and Coalition Dynamics

In the recent elections, the Mahayuti alliance-comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP-secured a commanding majority with 230 out of 288 seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, followed by Shiv Sena (57) and NCP (41). In contrast, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) could only manage 46 seats, with Shiv Sena (UBT) winning 20, Congress 10, and Sharad Pawar's NCP faction 10.
