Chincholi Bunder Road Expansion Underway: 30 Structures Demolished, 35 More To Go

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has commenced the road widening project for Chincholi Bunder Road in Malad West, removing 30 out of the 65 structures affected, according to Hindustan Times (HT). This major road, which connects SV Road and Link Road, is undergoing an expansion to improve traffic flow and address current issues.

The road is being widened to 18.30 metres (60 feet) from its existing width of approximately 14 to 16 metres. This widening is a crucial step in enhancing the road's capacity and reducing traffic congestion. The BMC's effort to clear 30 partially affected structures marks significant progress, with the total number of demolitions expected to reach 65.

Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Commissioner of the P North ward, highlighted the importance of this project in HT, saying, "Chincholi Bunder Road is a key link between Link Road and SV Road. The presence of commercial structures has hindered its effectiveness. Demolishing these structures is vital for improving travel efficiency along this route."

The current road suffers from traffic congestion and waterlogging, primarily due to inadequate Storm Water Drain (SWD) connectivity. Commercial structures have exacerbated these issues by blocking necessary road expansion.

Once the remaining structures are removed and the road widening is complete, a new SWD system and footpaths will be installed. These upgrades are expected to alleviate traffic problems and resolve waterlogging, leading to better connectivity and improved infrastructure in the area.
