Bandra-Worli Sea Link Extension Complete: Coastal Road To Open By January
The final phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road project achieved a major milestone on Wednesday, November 27, at 11:30 am with the installation of a crucial 60-metre bridge span, according to a Hindustan Times (HT) report. This new connection links the northbound section of the coastal road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL), marking the final bridge installation for the project.
According to officials, 93 per cent of the coastal road's construction has been completed. Once the newly installed girder is fully operational, the northbound and southbound connectors to the Sea Link will be ready. The entire stretch of the coastal road, running from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Marine Drive, is expected to open for public use by January 2024.

A civic official stated in HT, "The final arch bridge connection to the Sea Link will be ready for public use in January. The 60-metre steel girder installed on Wednesday completes the key linkage."
Earlier this month, on November 5, a 44-metre span was successfully installed as part of the final two sections connecting the northbound carriageway to the Sea Link. This latest installation officially begins the project's last phase.
In April 2024, the 120-metre arch bridge and a 46-metre connecting span were completed. The southbound carriageway, from Marine Drive to the Sea Link, opened to traffic on September 13. Other sections opened in stages this year: the southern arm, from Worli to Marine Drive, was inaugurated on March 12; the northern arm, from Marine Drive to Haji Ali, opened on June 10; and the 3.5-kilometre stretch from Haji Ali to Abdul Gaffer Khan Marg became operational on July 11.
Once finished, the Mumbai Coastal Road is expected to significantly ease traffic and reduce travel time between Marine Drive and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
