Are Schools And Colleges Closed? Mumbai Braces For Heavy Rain Chaos!
Mumbai is experiencing severe disruptions due to heavy rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the city and surrounding areas.
Rail tracks have been submerged at key locations such as Kurla, Bhandup, and Vikhroli, leading to delays of up to an hour on the Central Railway (CR) line.

Are Schools and Colleges Closed?
The IMD has forecasted severe thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain throughout the evening, affecting several districts in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Palghar, and Satara. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h are also anticipated, further complicating conditions.
Flight Disruptions at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
Flight operations at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have been significantly impacted. Earlier, an Indigo flight aborted its landing due to wind shear and was diverted to Ahmedabad. As of 8:09 PM, the airport reported seven go-arounds and two diversions, with more disruptions expected as the adverse weather continues.
SpiceJet has advised passengers to check their flight status online, stating, "Due to bad weather in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected."
Impact on Local Train Services
Mumbai's suburban train network is also facing substantial challenges due to the relentless rain. Delays of up to an hour have been reported, and stations have announced that trains will not be stopping at Nahur, Kanjurmarg, and Vidyavihar, leading to increased crowding and frustration among commuters.
Train cancellations have begun on the Western Line, resulting in heavy congestion at major stations like Churchgate.
Schools and Colleges Closed
In light of the IMD's forecast, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all schools and colleges in the city will remain closed on Thursday. The BMC has urged residents to leave their homes only if absolutely necessary.
"The BMC administration requests Mumbaikars to step out of their homes only if required," the announcement read.
Extended Forecast
The IMD has warned of continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity in the coming days as a trough from lower to mid-levels strengthens over the North Konkan region. Rainfall levels are expected to range between 64.5 mm and 204.4 mm, with some areas likely to experience extreme rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are forecasted to persist across the region, as the trough interacts with a cyclonic circulation over South Chhattisgarh, increasing the intensity of the weather system.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions as the city braces for continued rain and potential flooding.
