Actress Arrested For Allegedly Running Sex Racket From A Hotel In Thane, Two Women Rescued

In a major crackdown on illegal trafficking activities, police in Maharashtra's Thane district have arrested an actress who had reportedly worked in Hindi web series for allegedly running a sex racket from a hotel.

The operation was carried out in the Wagle Estate area, leading to the rescue of two women and the seizure of evidence.

The arrest comes amid increased police action against organised prostitution and human trafficking networks in the Mumbai metropolitan region.

Raid Conducted at Thane Hotel

According to police officials, the raid was carried out on Sunday, February 22, at a hotel in Wagle Estate following a tip-off. During the operation, two women aged 40 and 48 were rescued from the premises.

The accused actress was taken into custody for allegedly organising and operating the illegal activity from the hotel. Police said she had been arranging clients and coordinating the meetings.

Officials also seized items worth Rs 11,610 from the spot, including two mobile phones that were allegedly used to manage the racket.

How the Alleged Racket Operated

Investigators revealed that the accused allegedly contacted potential clients through WhatsApp. She reportedly demanded around Rs 25,000 per booking, claiming that television actors or artistes would provide services.

Police said she would keep approximately Rs 15,000 from each deal as commission. The remaining amount was allegedly given to the women involved.

Authorities also stated that she is accused of convincing women to join the trade by offering them money and promising financial support.

Financial Stress Cited by Accused

During questioning, the accused reportedly told police that she had been facing financial difficulties and was not getting regular acting work. She claimed she entered the illegal trade to support her family back in Bihar.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further details about possible links or accomplices are being examined.

Separate Sex Racket Busted in Navi Mumbai

In another case, police in Navi Mumbai rescued two minor girls after busting a prostitution racket. The action was taken following a tip-off about a man allegedly running the operation.

The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch began its investigation on February 20. A decoy customer was sent to confirm the information, after which a trap was set near a hotel in Sector 11.

Police arrested the main accused, identified as Harish Vikas Chhari, a resident of Koparkhairane. His associate, Raj Singh, is currently absconding.

Two minor girls were rescued during the operation and have been provided assistance.

Cases Registered Under Multiple Laws

Police have registered cases under several legal provisions, including:

• Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act
